Jim Mayfield is a former U.S. diplomat with extensive experience advancing client interests across Asia and global markets. Prior to joining Vriens & Partners, he served as Director of the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Export Assistance Center in Irvine, California, where he led a multidisciplinary team advising companies on international business development.
Jim also served as a U.S. Foreign Commercial Service Officer in Ho Chi Minh City, Hong Kong, San Francisco, and Shanghai. In these roles, he crafted and executed market entry strategies, led government engagement on regulatory issues, resolved intellectual property and customs disputes, and directed advocacy campaigns that secured major contracts.
Jim holds a BA in International Affairs from The George Washington University and an MBA from the University of Hawaiʻi. He lives in California and serves as an advisor to Chapman University’s Schmid Center for International Business and the Orange County chapter of Women in International Trade.
