John D. Forbes has long experience in government relations and in assisting companies to pursue trade and investment opportunities in the Philippines. He has worked with clients in automotive manufacturing, defence sales, electric power generation, food and health products, infrastructure development, and steel manufacturing. During the administration of former president Ramos, he advised the Philippine government’s US public relations firm on investment promotion. He was involved with the 1996 APEC Summit in Manila and assisted the new authorities at the former US navy base at Subic Bay to attract new investors in the 1990s. For more than ten years he has chaired the legislative committee of the American Chamber of Commerce where he has also served as director and treasurer. He is a senior advisor at the chamber for the Arangkada Philippines Project and regularly interacts with cabinet secretaries, congressional leaders, leading Philippine business organizations, and the media. He sits on several working groups of the Philippine National Competitiveness Council.
John was an American diplomat for 25 years. In 1996, he made the Philippines his permanent residence. He attended Georgetown, Princeton, and Harvard universities and has published monographs on Jamaica and the Philippines, most recently a major study of the Philippine investment climate, which is available at www.investphilippines.info.
