Sukomaran worked at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA), the principal government agency responsible for the promotion and development of Malaysia’s manufacturing and services sectors, for 36 years.
Headquartered in Kuala Lumpur, MIDA has 22 offices globally. He held various leadership positions and spent more than 16 years in MIDA overseas offices, including 5 years in Los Angeles as Vice Consul Investment, as well as 8 years in Chicago and 4 years in Singapore as MIDA’s Director.
Sukomaran has advised clients around the world on a wide range of topics over the course of his career, and has helped more than 200 US, Singaporean as well as other multinational companies including internet companies to establish their operations and expand their businesses in Malaysia and the region.
Sukomaran has also served various industries, including automotive, food, chemicals, plastics, electronics, textiles, non-metallic minerals and others, and took a lead role in processing applications from companies for licenses, incentives, expatriate positions, import duty and sales tax exemptions, vetting technical agreements, developmental and promotional work.
A frequent speaker at major global conferences, he has also authored articles for his organization in academic journals and op-eds for leading international publications. Sukomaran earned an Honors Degree in Economics Majoring in Business Administration, University Malaya, Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in 1978.
