Maxwell Abbott joined Vriens & Partners as an Associate in February 2018. He most recently worked as a Legal Research and Data Analysis Consultant for the Open Society Foundations in Jakarta. In this role, he performed legal and policy research and provided capacity building for Indonesian non-profits and government agencies in the legal sector.
Previously, he worked as a Project Officer for BABSEACLE, a non-profit located in Chiang Mai, Thailand which develops the capacity of law schools in Vietnam, Laos, Myanmar and Thailand. Mr. Abbott has also worked as a Communications and Advocacy Associate with Global Health Strategies, a global health consulting firm in New York, and a Research Fellow with the Indonesian Legal Resource Center, a human rights non-profit in Jakarta.
Mr. Abbott has delivered presentations on access to justice and human rights in Indonesia and published articles on anti-corruption, criminal law reform and other topics. He is an attorney admitted to the New York State Bar. Maxwell received a Juris Doctorate from Columbia Law School and was awarded the Harlan Fiske Stone Scholarship for Superior Academic Achievement and the Parker School Certificate for Achievement in International and Comparative Law. He received a Bachelor of Arts in political science from the George Washington University, graduating summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.
