Wayan Agus Purnomo is a Senior Associate at the Jakarta Office of Vriens & Partners. He joined Vriens & Partners in 2020 to provide support on stakeholder engagement, media strategy and policy and political analysis.
Prior to joining, he was the political editor of the widely-respected Tempo Magazine, where he was a journalist since 2011. He covered the inner-workings of parliament, political parties, elections and led several major investigations, including the corruption around the procurement of the electronic identity card or e-KTP. The e-KTP scandal eventually led to the trial and conviction of several high-profile politicians and parliamentarians. In 2015, Wayan received the Adinegoro Award for his feature in Tempo, “Politik pun Bisa Asyik” (Politics Can be Fun Too) which sought to engage young people in the political process.
He was a member of Independent Alliance Journalist between 2010-2019, and the secretary-general of the Federation of Independent Union Media Workers in 2016-2018. Wayan was a trainer and mentor on journalism and good governance through several institutions, including Tempo Institute and other civil society organizations.
He holds a master’s degree in Political Communication from the University of Glasgow, sponsored by the British Government (Chevening), and a bachelor’s degree in Law from the Udayana University in 2011.
