Ahmad Faris Rizal

Faris is an Analyst at Vriens & Partners’ office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. His work covers a broad range of sectors including data centers, tourism, energy, and health and life insurance. Most notably, his data center-related work involved navigating a rapidly evolving renewable energy policy landscape, while providing policy insights to support commercial dealings for renewable energy offtake. His tourism sector work covers policy advocacy and monitoring in key areas such as the Tourism Industry Act, tourism tax, and the short-term rental accommodation (STRA) guidelines.

Prior to Vriens & Partners, Faris earlier worked as a consultant in Business Restructuring Services at KPMG Advisory under their Graduate program, where he supported implementation strategies for large receivership and management projects. He also served as a researcher at the Parliamentary Office of Permatang Pauh, where he provided research support and drafted Parliamentary as well as campaign speeches for a Member of Parliament. Additionally, he has writing and editorial experience in a range of publications throughout university.

Faris holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History Politics and Economics (First Class Honours) from the University College London (UCL), where he specialized in the history of ideas, democratization and democratic backsliding, and political research methods. As a student, he was actively involved with the Malaysian Philosophy Society, an NGO focusing on spreading practical philosophy education in Malaysia. In his free time, he enjoys road cycling, weightlifting, and leisure reading.
