Estey is a Fellow at Vriens & Partners, Jakarta. She contributes to the firm as a foreign policy analyst.
Prior to her fellowship at V&P, Estey worked at the International Institute for Strategic Studies – Asia as the Gerald Segal Research Intern. She authored briefs on Indo-Pacific security, as well as Southeast Asian military politics, on behalf of the Executive Director and other senior researchers.
Previously, Estey lived in Indonesia for six months to study Indonesian intensively. She split her time between Universitas Negeri Malang, where she lived with an Indonesian host family, and Kontras. She has also interned at the Southeast Asia Program at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Washington D.C., and written a thesis about Indonesia-China-India relations during the Cold War.
Estey holds a BA in Political Science and History (Empire and Colonialism) from the University of Washington. She is a Boren Scholar and Critical Language Scholar for Bahasa Indonesia.
