Kasit joined politics as a member of the Democrat Party in Thailand and served as Foreign Minister from 2008 to 2011. He was also a member of the House of Representatives and the National Reform Steering Assembly. Previously a diplomat for 37 years, Kasit worked for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as an Ambassador to several countries, and was based in Moscow, Jakarta, Bonn/Berlin, Tokyo and Washington D.C.
Kasit is currently a member of several regional NGOs, such as ASEAN Parliamentarians for Human Rights (APHR), Asia-Pacific Leadership Network (APLN) and the Sustainable Energy Action Committee (SEAC) Group. He is also actively involved in civil society work on human rights, refugees and migrant workers issues. Kasit holds an honorary position at Chulalongkorn University, Thammasat University and Rangsit University, and occasionally gives lectures and interviews on Thai politics and regional affairs.
Kasit holds a Master’s Degree in Social Science from the Institute of Social Studies at the Hague and a Bachelor’s Degree in International Affairs from the School of Foreign Service at Georgetown University, Washington D.C.
